Three bathers drown in the Balearic Islands in a few hours

The Balearic Islands experienced a wave of drownings this Friday, June 10, three swimmers having lost their lives.

According to Balearic rescue, three bathers lost their lives by drowning this Friday, June 10. All three would have died within a few hours of each other. A fourth swimmer was also hospitalized, apparently in serious condition, after going underwater on s’Illot beach.

Two of the bathers died in Mallorca, while the third lost his life in Menorca. The first drowned in Cala Agulla, in the Majorcan municipality of Capdepera. A second drowning occurred in Playa de Muro on the same island. A third man drowned on the Menorcan beach of Raco d’en Paupa, in Saint Louis.

The Emergency Medical Aid Service (SAMU 061) detailed that one of the bathers died this afternoon after suffering a drowning episode in Playa de Muro, around 3:40 p.m. On the same beach, the emergency service was also notified that lifeguards on the beach had pulled a man from the water and were performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

A rapid intervention vehicle (VIR) from SAMU 061 and two advanced survival ambulances were deployed. One of them, from the Council of Muro, went to the scene to help the patient. The aquatic rescue teams recovered the man at sea but despite the maneuvers carried out by the rescuers, the man ultimately died at the scene, said SAMU 061.

A few minutes later, around 3:45 p.m., SAMU 061 reports that another bather has lost his life, in Cala Agulla in Capdepera. A lifeguard on the beach pulled the man out of the water and began CPR.

Two ambulances and a doctor from the Capdepera health center were mobilized to this beach. Doctors performed resuscitation maneuvers for 45 minutes, but could only confirm the patient’s death.

As reported by SAMU 061, the third death of the day in the Balearic Islands occurred on the Menorcan beach of Raco d’en Paupa, where a 69-year-old foreigner drowned around 5:15 p.m. He had been seen floating in the sea about 100 meters from shore. Those who helped rescue him began resuscitation until two ambulances arrived on the scene, but medics were unable to save his life.

Earlier this morning, a 55-year-old bather was seriously hospitalized after nearly drowning on Alcudia de s’Illot beach. Two other bathers were also transferred to hospitals on the island yesterday, Thursday June 9, after drowning in Alcudia Beach and Puerto de Pollenca, as reported
